Protons 101: The Accelerator Podcast
"Market Forces": Radiotherapy for Prostate Cancer Around the Globe
This week I’d like to highlight a podcast by other radiation oncologists, Drs. Anna Laucis, Matt Spraker, Simul Parikh are the hosts and they talk with guests Verdang Murthy from India and Alison Tree from the UK. It touches upon issues very similar to two prior entries on this Substack and one future post that will be up shortly.
The two prior related entries are my discussion on the specialty at large and how we can improve our impact:
The podcast gives far more insight and details into my brief comments of markets beyond the US market. Very interesting to hear from India and the UK.
And the second prior post is the discussion about the uphill battle that the COMPARRE Prostate Cancer Trial will face to demonstrate benefit.
And again, you get more flavor and perhaps other voices discussing where protons need to move to keep up with the SBRT aspect of prostate cancer treatment. That shift, as you will here, is a global one.
Part 1 runs about 38 min, but if you enjoy the work here, it is very worthwhile.

The future post here on this Substack will discuss how Europe is leading the proton trial enrollment - doing the types of studies that have proven very difficult to perform in the US. There is good discussion on this topic here and I think the discussion starts to unravel the reasons for the differences, here vs. abroad. Ultimately, it will likely be places beyond the borders of the US that help demonstrate the “promise of protons.”
Have a great weekend.
